FAQ

What is a Social Skills Coach?

A Social Skills Coach is a mental health professional who guides and supports clients in understanding the unspoken and unwritten yet expected social rules, as well as the expected social communication. The focus is on practicing real-life situations, building confidence, and enhancing social interactions.

Who benefits from Social Skills Coaching?

Anyone can benefit! Wendy specializes in working with teens and adults with developmental, social, and intellectual disabilities, including autism, Asperger’s syndrome, nonverbal learning disabilities, ADHD, social anxiety, and brain injuries. With years of experience supporting individuals with special needs, Wendy customizes each session to address the unique challenges of her clients.

What happens during a session?

Each session incorporates multiple teaching methods to reinforce social skills. This may include:

  • Guided conversations
  • Role-playing exercises
  • Scripting and modeling
  • Audio-visual aids
  • Interactive activities

These techniques ensure that each lesson is engaging, practical, and easy to apply in real-world situations.

How are sessions conducted?

Sessions are tailored to each client’s individual learning style and goals. Each one-hour session is designed to provide a personalized approach that maximizes the client’s progress.

How are social skills lessons structured?

During the initial consultation, we develop a customized social skills plan based on the client’s specific needs. This structured syllabus builds confidence and empowers individuals to navigate social situations more effectively.

Do all clients follow the same plan?

No. Every client receives a personalized social skills plan tailored to their unique goals and challenges. Clients play an active role in shaping their plan to ensure it aligns with their personal growth and learning style.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions can be conducted virtually from my office, using real-time technology to simulate real-world social settings. When appropriate, we can also hold sessions in real-life environments, such as community venues or social events, to provide hands-on practice.
